Stoddard’s Travels
In the mid-1890s, an American named John L. Stoddard toured Asia and published his photographs and notes as a series of lectures. La Couture Parisienne has two pages of his photos of Meiji-era Japanese costume, showing people in all walks of life: samurai to jinrikisha drivers, geisha to laundresses.
