Some kind of love is like
gold,
But that is the hardest to hold,
For it catches the eye of each thief passing by,
Some kind of love is like gold.
On the street between the Tendou house and Furinkan High, Ranma and Akane are walking to school. He is on the fence, his hands behind his head. Shampoo is riding her bicycle on the fence. She glomps Ranma. Akane knocks them both into the canal and walks on alone, her nose in the air, pointedly ignoring the screeching redhead in the water.

And some kind of love comes too soon,
And that kind of love heals your wounds,
And when your wounds are all healed
and you’re back on your wheels
You say that kind of love came too soon.
Akane reaches the gates of Furinkan High and is greeted by Kunou, who tries to embrace her. She knocks him into orbit. He lands at Nabiki’s feet. Nabiki sighs, shakes her head and carries him off to the infirmary.

Back at the Tendou house, Kasumi is moving through her household chores, cleaning, hanging out laundry.
Some kind of love, some kind of love,
everyone's looking for some kind of love,
some kind of love, some kind of love,
everyone's looking for some kind of love.

And some kinds of love starts as friends,
and that kind of love never ends,
for it comes on as slow as a flower in snow,
some kinds of love starts as friends.
Outside Nerima, on a road through a forest, Ukyou is heading away from town, pulling a yatai. There are tears in her eyes. Ryouga emerges from the trees and waves to Ukyou. She stops, waves back. He approaches, rather hesitantly. He takes a place beside her and they continue along the road, pulling the yatai together.

And some kind of love tears your heart
when you knew it was wrong from the start,
but try to explain the moth to the flame,
some kind of love tears your heart.
On a random street in Nerima, Shampoo is walking, carrying her ramen delivery case. Mousse is following her, pleading and gesturing. Obviously he’s trying to get her to go out with him. She knocks him into a puddle and he transforms. She continues on her way. The duck flaps after her, quacking wildly.

In the Tendou kitchen, Kasumi is cooking. She looks serene and happy.
Some kind of love, some kind of love,
everyone’s looking for some kind of love,
some kind of love, some kind of love,
everyone’s looking for some kind of love.

But some kind of love never dies,
and that is the hardest to find,
through laughter and rage
it just mellows with age,
some kind of love never dies.
Inside the Tendou house, we see an open butsudan with a picture of Mrs. Tendou and a freshly filled offering bowl. Soun is in front of the altar, praying. He is NOT crying.

And some kind of love is like gold,
and that is the hardest to hold,
for it catches the eye of each thief passing by,
some kind of love is like gold.
Outside Furinkan High, just as school is letting out, Akane and Ranma walk out of the building, side by side, arguing. Kodachi appears, dressed in her leotard, twirling her ribbon, and carrying a bouquet of black roses. She glomps Ranma. Akane pulls her mallet out of hammerspace and slams Kodachi, who drops to the ground with her hands in “promise pose.” Without missing a step, she and Ranma walk on, still arguing.

Kasumi comes up the street toward Dr. Toufuu’s clinic, carrying a covered dish. She turns up the walk and knocks on the door. Dr. Toufuu answers the door and greets Kasumi. His glasses turn blank, he gets a silly grin and walks into the wall. Kasumi holds her hand over her mouth in amusement
Some kind of love, some kind of love,
everyone’s looking for some kind of love,
some kind of love, some kind of love,
everyone’s looking for some kind of love.
NOTES, EXPLANATIONS ETC.
I know it’s OOC for Akane to mallet Kodachi instead of Ranma; I just liked it better that way.
The song is from John Stewart’s “Wingless Angel” album; my thanks to Marty Burke for introducing me to it, to Takahashi-sama as ever for her delightful characters, and most of all to Dan for prereading, support moral and technical, and turning my world right side up – and for reading my first draft of this and saying he’d really like to see it animated!
